    Slipped Disc

Between the bones of the spine lay protective shock absorbing pads called discs.

When a disc is injured people may refer to this as a “slipped disc”, however, discs do not slip they rupture or split. When this happens, the gel inside of the disc may then leak out and begin to put pressure on the spine and the surrounding nerves causing pain and discomfort for the patient. A disc may rupture anywhere in the spine, the most common is in the lower back.

Patients who have experienced a “slipped disc” may experience tingling, numbness, and pain anywhere around the affected area. Patients who have slipped discs may see their chiropractor and through adjustments and therapy, the disc will begin to heal. Adjustments allow the blocked nerves to send signals to the brain to start the healing process on the injured disc. Some patients have felt relief from this pain after their first adjustment and most often, after routine chiropractic visits, the disc is corrected and the pain is eliminated.
